holy shrine was opened the first-time wiladat of Bibi Zainab (a.s)
With these words, Bibi Zainab (a.s) bint Ali (as) went up against the general population of Kufa who sold out their Imam in Karbala. There is no uncertainty that Hadrat Zainab (just like) the sparkling sun ever of and of mankind. Her sibling's name "Imam Hussain" (as) and Karbala relate the possibility of opportunity, equity, humankind, prudence, battling against dictatorship, with the acknowledgment of the power of Allah.
Bibi Zainab (a.s) proclaimed to the world the greatest sacrifices made by her brother Imam Hussain (a.s) and other members of the family of the Holy Prophet of Islam(saw) who were brutally martyred at Karbala in 61 A.H by the forces of Yazid son of Muawiya. On the other hand, the women and children witnessed the very inhumane and merciless violence that took place in Karbala, yet they were not desperate, depressed, they did not collapse, despite all the pain and challenges, they were contrary the opposite. They stood up, spoke up, and held Yazid responsibly. They had no fear or anxiety but rather were very strong and decisive in their stances.
BIBI Zainab (A.S) functioned as a model of defiance against oppression
In many ways, Bibi Zainab (a.s) functioned as a model of defiance against oppression and other forms of injustice. When her nephew, Ali ibn Husayn Zayn was sentenced to death by the governor of Kufah, she threw herself over him in a protective embrace yelling "By God, I will not let go of him. If you are going to kill him, you will have to kill me along with him." Moved by action, the captors spared Zayn al-Abidin's life. Because Zayn al-Abidin was the only one of Husayn's sons to survive the Battle of Karbala, this courageous action was pivotal in preserving the survival of an important part of Ali's genetic line and thus the future Imams in Shia Islam.
The other survivors of Husayn's army, most of them women and children, were marched to Damascus, Yazid's capital, where they were held captive. Tradition says that Bibi Zainab (a.s) already in anguish due to the death of her brother Husayn and her sons Aun and Muhammad, was forced to march unveiled. This was an extreme indignity to inflict on a high-ranking Muslim woman, the granddaughter of Muhammad.
Bibi Zainab (a.s) role was exemplary. It showed how bold Muslim women were and how they played a key role in consolidating Islamic teachings. Today, despite so much progress and the spread of education, so many Muslim women are suppressed. In some alleged Muslim societies, a woman’s voice is banned from even being heard in public; and here was Zainab (as) from the Imam’s family who became a public speaker to save Islamic values. The leadership of the family fell to Hazrat Bibi Zainab (a.s) after Karbala, and she proved to be more than what was expected of her.
To completely grasp the message of Karbala one needs to comprehend two considerations. One is the ascending of Imam Hussain (as) and the other is the ascending of Bibi Zainab (a.s) Hazrat Zainab (similar to) an exceptional figure in the historical backdrop of Karbala enriched with celestial faithfulness and determination. After the suffering of her sibling and her two children in the clash of Karbala, Hadrat Zainab stood tall and stated: "O my Master! Acknowledge our modest forfeit to You."
Hazrat Bibi Zainab (a.s) ended up popular for her prudent life. In her character, she mirrored the best traits. In balance and tranquillity she was compared to her great mother Umm-al-Mumineen Hadrat Khadija(as), in celibacy and humility to her heavenly mother Hadrat Fatima(as) and in expressiveness to her blessed dad Imam Ali(as).
